Types of ByYourSide Coaching
Basic Coaching (Most Popular)
We work beside teachers from Pre‑K through 12th grade, providing hands‑on instructional coaching that strengthens classroom practice and builds confidence. Our instructional coach spends a minimum of three full days with each teacher or administrator, observing bell‑to‑bell instruction to understand their strengths, challenges, and teaching style. This allows us to model effective strategies, offer personalized feedback, and support meaningful growth.
We coach in key areas such as:
- Classroom setup and organization — and why an intentional environment matters
- Establishing routines and expectations — and how they improve behavior and learning
- Student engagement strategies that increase participation and motivation
- Small‑group instruction management for differentiated and intervention support
- Planning and delivering rigorous, explicit instruction aligned to CCSS
Our goal is to equip educators with research‑based practices, practical tools, and real‑world guidance that elevate teaching and improve student outcomes.
Advanced Coaching
We support grade‑level and department‑level teams through collaborative, hands‑on instructional coaching. BYS Advanced Coaches spend full days in classrooms, observing instruction, identifying strengths, and understanding the needs of each team. After classroom visits, coaches facilitate meaningful group discussions that build teamwork, strengthen shared practices, and promote the use of data to drive instruction. Through this process, we help educators deepen their teaching, expand their strategies, and increase rigor across all content areas. Our goal is to foster a culture of collaboration, reflection, and continuous growth that elevates instruction for every student.
Professional Development
Because our coaches bring decades of classroom experience across Pre‑K through 12th grade, we offer a wide range of high‑quality professional development seminars tailored to the needs of today’s educators. Our team curates effective, research‑based trainings that align with your teachers’ specific challenges, grade levels, and instructional goals. Whether your staff needs support in classroom management, engagement strategies, small‑group instruction, or rigorous lesson design, we provide targeted professional learning that strengthens teaching practices and improves student outcomes.
Subject-Concentrated Coaching (Elem.)
Our subject‑specific coaching model is designed to strengthen instruction within a targeted grade level or department. BYS Advanced Coaches concentrate their support on improving teaching practices in a specific subject area by working directly with groups of educators. Coaches spend time in classrooms, observe instruction, and then guide teams through a deep dive into the selected content area.
We analyze new and existing print and digital resources, review classroom materials, and examine student activities to ensure alignment and effectiveness. Coaches highlight high‑impact teaching strategies, student engagement techniques, and practical implementation methods that help teachers apply what they learn with confidence.
BYS Coaches support instructional growth in Writing, Science/STEM, Math, Reading, Social Studies, and more. This coaching structure often requires half‑day segments, so we contract in ½‑day sessions with a minimum of four half‑days or two full days.
What This Coaching Can Look Like
- Meeting with the PLC or grade‑level team during specials or planning time
- Visiting classrooms during a half‑day block while the targeted subject is being taught
- Coaching through observation, modeling, or co‑teaching
- Meeting with teachers for follow‑up conversations, reflection, data discussions, and planning
This approach builds collaboration, deepens instructional understanding, and increases rigor across subject areas.
The structure of this approach requires that we coach in ½ days segments at times. therefore, we contract for ½ day sessions with a minimum of four ½ days or two full days.
What could it look like:
- Meet with PLC. or group during specials and planning time
- Meet in the classrooms during a one-half day while specific subject is being taught
- Coach through observation, modeling, or co-teaching
- Meet with teachers for follow-up conversation, observations discussions, and planning
Coaching for Administrators
We provide side‑by‑side coaching for both new and experienced principals. Our knowledgeable coaches, all with extensive administrative experience, work directly with school leaders to strengthen their skills in budgeting, scheduling, staff support, campus culture, and overall school management. BYS coaches walk with principals through real‑world challenges, offering practical guidance, leadership strategies, and proven systems that help them lead their campuses with confidence and clarity. Our goal is to support administrators in building strong, effective schools where teachers thrive and students succeed.
Library Coaching
We provide hands‑on coaching and support for librarians and library aides across all grade levels. Our experienced BYS coaches work side‑by‑side with library staff to strengthen library management, improve student engagement, and enhance instructional alignment. We help create an effective, welcoming library environment by guiding furniture placement, behavior‑supportive layouts, and material accessibility.
Coaches support librarians in key areas such as:
- Library environment design to improve behavior management and access
- Student behavior and engagement strategies during lessons and library time
- Book‑sharing automation systems to streamline circulation
- Teaching students the Dewey Decimal System with clarity and confidence
- Organizing books by special sections (AR, Primary, Upper Grades, Subject)
- Supporting classroom instruction aligned to CCSS
- Creating a Library PLC to build teamwork, collaboration, and shared goals

We are looking for retired educators, administrators, and librarians that are passionate about children in New Mexico. Coaching for BYS is part-time and is considered contracted work.
